How to Develop AI/Human Augmentation
In my last blog, I introduced you to the concept of AI human augmentation.
As a quick reminder, human augmentation in AI refers to the use of artificial intelligence to enhance human capabilities, rather than replace them.
It's about leveraging AI to improve human performance, health, or quality of life by assisting, supporting, and extending human abilities.
This often involves integrating AI systems with human decision-making, allowing humans to leverage AI's capabilities to perform tasks more effectively and efficiently.

I now want to consider how to successfully develop AI human augmentation into your company.
I hope you find my following suggestions useful in successfully delivering AI human augmentation into your organisation:
Always consider AI - understand that AI's capabilities aren't immediately obvious like previous technologies. Whilst excellent at tasks like idea generation and creative problem-solving, it can be surprisingly poor at seemingly simple tasks. This paradox means experimentation is essential. If you intimately understand the nuances, limitations, and abilities of AI tools, you’ll be uniquely positioned to unlock AI's full innovative potential.
Be the human in the loop - AI systems don't actually "know" anything; they predict the most likely next response based on patterns in their training data, which means they can present incorrect information. Being the human in the loop isn't just about quality control; it's about staying ahead of the curve by actively engaging with AI systems to learn their capabilities.
Treat AI like a “person”, whilst consistently remembering it is not Human! - working with AI becomes more intuitive when you think of it as an alien person rather than a machine. Imagine an infinitely fast intern who's eager to please but prone to embellishing the truth. Research shows that the way we phrase prompts significantly affects AI output quality, and the key is setting clear context about what persona you want the AI to adopt, which guides its responses and makes them less generic and more useful for your specific needs.
Choose a current problem or task and begin "talking to AI" about it.
Use AI to bounce ideas off, gain fresh perspectives and completely flip the script on a problem.
Create systems for sharing successful use cases, effective prompts, and key learnings across the organisation.
Foster a culture of safe experimentation where failure is viewed as a learning, not a setback. Adopting new ways of working can feel daunting, but with supportive leadership, teams can explore AI's potential without fear.
Develop comprehensive AI strategies focused on co-intelligence and human augmentation. Build co-intelligence capabilities and experimental mindsets through tailored workshops and training programmes.
Understand your teams' opportunities for high-impact AI thought partnership within existing workflows.
Navigate the change management challenges critical for successful AI adoption, providing the supportive framework teams need to embrace new ways of working
